Sanctuary
This is the second piece in my year-long Wall Hanging Oracle Deck project.

Sanctuary
A place of refuge. A feeling of safety. A space to exhale, to release vigilance, to soften the shoulders and let go. A moment of relief.
But where is sanctuary when the world is so hostile? When places of refuge are held hostage? When safety is not a given but a commodity, auctioned to the highest bidder? When belonging comes with conditions, forcing us into shapes not our own just to be let in?
How do we fight for the right to sanctuary?
Maybe it doesn’t need to be built by human hands. Maybe we make it ourselves. Maybe it isn’t obvious. Sometimes, sanctuary is a worn chair by the window, a whispered prayer, a sweater that carries the scent of home. It’s a forest clearing, the steady rhythm of your own heartbeat, the warmth of familiar hands.
Sanctuary is found in stillness, in movement, in the sacred spaces we create and the ones we carry within us.
Where do you find sanctuary? And perhaps more importantly—where do you create it?
Creative Prompts:
Make a list of places, real or imagined, where you have felt truly safe. What do they have in common?
Create a small sanctuary in your home—a corner, an altar, a chair by a window. What objects bring you peace? Arrange them with intention.
Close your eyes and imagine a sanctuary just for you. What does it look like? Sketch, paint, or describe it in words.
