why I wear BLUE so much
I was organizing my wardrobe the other week and realized that the color that shows up overwhelmingly the most in my closet is blue.
I wouldn’t necessarily consider blue my favorite color (a mossy yellow green is) but it is the color I gravitate towards wearing the most.

I thoroughly enjoy playing with color theory and intentionally using the impact of color on psychology and physiology. Blue is a particularly fun color to play around with in my daily practices - it is a pretty powerful and impactful tool.
Blue is a primary color, but is an interesting one because there is so much variety of shades, tints, and tones, and it is actually quite hard to qualify and describe.
Did you know that blue was the last color across many different cultures and languages to be named?!
Yves Klein, California, (IKB 71), 1961.
As a primary color, it catches the eye, but as a cool color, it might not feel as overpowering or energizing as a red or a yellow when the center of a color palette or combination.
From a psychological and physiological perspective, blue is calming and soothing. It can literally lower blood pressure and heart rate. This is because of the way that our eyes and brains perceive blue wavelengths and our retinas don’t need to do a whole bunch of work to make sense of what we are seeing (how our brains work is so cool).
As someone who tends towards high anxiety, overwhelming emotions and thoughts, and can be quite hyperactive, wearing blue helps to soothe and calm me. If I am feeling melancholy and sad, it also helps me to honor those feelings and meet myself where I am.
And since looking at blue can be calming and lower blood pressure and heart rate, it can help us to be more grounded and present, which can even help us to access our creativity and imagination!
My invitation to you is to get curious:
What colors are you drawn to wearing and surrounding yourself with? And what do you notice about how you feel with those colors?
