Intentional Stitches

Using hand-sewing techniques, you’ll learn the art of appliqué and embroidery to bring your vision to life. Each stitch will be an act of mindfulness, weaving your aspirations into a tangible work of art. We'll also explore ways to incorporate magical practices into your creative process, making this project not just a craft but a meaningful ritual.

Whether you're an experienced crafter or new to sewing, this class is designed to guide you step by step in creating a piece that inspires and uplifts you throughout the year. By the end, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind wall hanging infused with your personal intentions and the joy of mindful making.

A person with floral tattoos on their arm is sewing a design onto fabric with a needle and thread. The fabric has embroidered sun and eye designs. Around them are sewing supplies, including colorful sewing pins in a bowl, rolls of embroidery thread in gray, orange, and teal, a small pair of scissors, and pins holding the fabric in place.

What you’ll learn

  • Creative Sewing

Learn a variety of hand sewing techniques to create appliqué designs and embroider symbols and words.

  • Everyday Rituals

We will talk about the importance of ritual and ceremony and how to bring a spiritual and "meaning making" element into our creative practice.

  • Mindful Crafting

We will explore ways to bring mindfulness and embodiment practices into our creative practices.

FAQs

  • You do not! You do not even need to have a sewing machine as this class will teach you to make a small fabric wall hanging entirely with hand sewing techniques.

I will cover a variety of hand sewing skills that can be used for this project as well as many other small sewing (and mending projects) you may want to try.

  • A full supplies + materials list will be provided after you sign up but you will need:

    • hand sewing and embroidery or sashiko needles

    • all purpose thread

    • embroidery floss

    • a few different colors and sizes of woven fabric

    • batting

    • fabric scissors

    • paper

    • small thread snips

    • fusible interfacing

    • a fabric marker or pen

Important note: a lot of these things can also be found at thrift stores, second-hand art supply stores and by re-using/re-cycling things you may already have. For example, you could use a sheet or pillowcase you no longer like as the main fabric or as fabric for the appliqué. I’ve seen bundles of embroidery floss at a lot of different thrift stores and vintage stores - same with sewing needles and many other every day sewing supplies. You do not need the best or fanciest supplies to make your wall hanging :)

  • The live calls will be video calls through Zoom.

The calls are 2 hours long and include a demonstration portion where I will show you the technical skills and techniques we are focusing on that module.

We will also spend some of the video call time talking about ritual, magic, embodiment, mindfulness, symbolism, color theory and other topics that may come up.

You are not required to attend the calls as they will be recorded and you can watch them later. AND you are not required to participate in the conversation or have your camera on (I'll never call on you without you indicating you want to talk first) ;)

  • If you are taking this class live, the first live call will be January 20th from 3-5pm PT (6-8pm ET).  The class is six weeks long and the calls will be every Tuesday at the same time.

Important: you are not required to attend all the live classes!

All the content is uploaded to the class dashboard including recordings of the calls, so you can do this class at your own pace and at a time that works best for you.

    Live call schedule:

    Tuesday, January 20th 3-5pm PT // 4-6 pm MT // 5-7 pm CT // 6-8pm ET

    Tuesday, January 27th 3-5pm PT // 4-6 pm MT // 5-7 pm CT // 6-8pm ET

    Tuesday, February 3rd 3-5pm PT // 4-6 pm MT // 5-7 pm CT // 6-8pm ET

    Tuesday, February 10th 3-5pm PT // 4-6 pm MT // 5-7 pm CT // 6-8pm ET

    Tuesday, February 17th 3-5pm PT // 4-6 pm MT // 5-7 pm CT // 6-8pm ET

    Tuesday, February 24th 3-5pm PT // 4-6 pm MT // 5-7 pm CT // 6-8pm ET

  • These are the skills and topics I will be covering. Some of this may be familiar to you and some may be brand new. The "spiritual + energetic skills" aren't so much skills but just suggestions of things to think about when you are thinking about your creative practice. I am not a trained teacher, and I am not even "technically" a trained sewist or designer although I have put in a lot of time sewing. I am not a therapist, I am not a counselor or coach, but I am a human being who has spent a lot of time developing creative practice and who has spent a lot of time thinking about how to bring more meaning and intention into everything I do. Some of this may be new or maybe even uncomfortable with you. I trust you to "take what you like and leave the rest".

“The wall hanging class was everything needed to step into the spring season with inspiration, intention, and eagerness. From an exploration of color, symbolism, and creative process through the first and last stitch, Justice made learning a lot of information accessible and joyful. The sense of community and the encouragement to nurture yourself, your art, and your local community was an added bonus!” - Natasha
