Introducing the “How to Make Your Own Nature Pillowcase” Tutorial!

A Nature Pillowcase (as defined by me, Justice McNeil, maker of Thread + Sprout) is a pillowcase that has curved color blocking on the front to look like hills, flowing mist, the waves of the ocean, layers of soil, or whatever else you have in mind.

This tutorial will teach you how to make a pattern for a square (20” x 20”) pillow. It is ideal for making decorative pillowcases for your couch throw pillows. Please note, this tutorial does not include a pattern but will teach you how to make your own!

  • While sewing a simple square pillowcase is fairly beginner-friendly, sewing curved lines can be tricky. I recommend anyone who wants to, to try it out but be patient with yourself and know that it may take a few tries :) It may be good to practice a bit before you cut into your nice/favorite fabric.

  • A light to mid weight woven fabric like a cotton or linen works best. This is a great project to use up smaller fabric remnants and scraps.

    • A 9 minute video of me walking through the steps to make a nature pillowcase

    • A PDF of the written instructions

  • After purchasing, you will receive an email with a link to download the PDF and a link to the video.

I want everyone who wants to to be able to make their own nature pillowcase, so this tutorial is offered at a sliding scale price. Please pay what you are able and what feels fair to you :) If you aren’t able to afford the minimum price ($10), please reach out via the contact form on my site.

Can’t wait to see what you make!
