What we will cover:
What even is color? How do we perceive it? How do eyes work?!
The context in which we understand color: color theory and a very, very brief history of color systems
Color and its impact on our psychology and nervous systems
(some of) The meaning of colors
Putting it all together to create palettes that feel cohesive and tell a story
How to apply these things to our daily lives: getting dressed, creative practices, and home decor
Rejecting sameness, celebrating difference, letting our weird live on the outside, and embracing what makes us feel ALIVE
In this class, there are no bad colors and no wrong colors! We will not be talking about colors that are “flattering” or currently “trending”.
In this class, we are celebrating differences and embracing curiosity!
Who is teaching this class??
Hi! My name is Justice.
I am a self-employed creative person who has been loving and playing with color for my entire life.
I am a fiber artist, creative facilitator, and movement practitioner. I consider my purpose here to be to remind you that the MAGIC IS IN YOU! I want to help you to give birth to your creative ideas, to explore the magical land that is your imagination, and encourage you to let yourself live out loud and take up space.
Why am I qualified to teach about color?
I grew up in a household of artists and was raised by a mother with a very keen eye for color and a profound understanding of color theory, who taught me all she knew. I have a degree in fashion journalism and graphic design, which gave me a great understanding of the way in which color is used in design and in the world around us. For the past 6 years, I have been working with color and unique palettes in the creations I make with Thread + Sprout. And beyond that, I am a curious person, and color is something that I have hyperfixated on and have made it my goal to learn everything I can about it!
I am a student who is always learning - I do not know everything and am always curious about WHAT ELSE IS OUT THERE!
I can’t wait to share with you all that I have learned about color, and hopefully it sparks your color curiosity!
