Skill Level
The Dance Pants Pattern is an all-level sewing pattern made for anyone from a true beginner to a seasoned sewist! The pockets may be a little tricky for brand-new beginners but hopefully the video sewalong can help :)
Sizing + Fit Info
The Dance Pants include an elastic and/or drawstring waistband, are meant to be pretty roomy in the hips and have a dropped crotch that hits ~mid-thigh. This pattern is drafted for a 5’7” (170 cm) person and is meant to be slightly cropped/ankle length. You will find the size charts below that include the sizes based on your body measurements and then the finished garment measurements. If you are between sizes, I recommend choosing the smaller of the two sizes. You can also always grade between sizes. Some makers have found they preferred sizing down for this pattern.

Fabric Needs
This pattern is designed to be used with midweight woven fabrics. Something like a midweight plain weave cotton or linen works great. More structured fabric will show the barrel shape of the pants more, whereas something that is softer and flowier, like a viscose, will not. You could also play around with lighter-weight fabrics for a breezy pair of trousers or something heavier to pair with sweaters for the winter. You could even try making them with a knit! Play around and have fun with it!
How much will you need?
The amount of fabric you need will depend on which size you are making as well as the width of your fabric and if the fabric has a pattern or weave that needs to go in a particular direction. If you make customizations to the pattern, this will also impact the amount of fabric needed.
The pockets require about 1/2 yard (0.45 meters) of fabric which is included in the fabric requirements below, but you could alternatively use a contrast fabric for the pocket bags :)
